Top 10 Pet Peeves

My lack of posts is really starting to bother me, but college and a desire to actually get some sleep has prevented me from blogging. Considering the fact that the last time I sat down to write a post about my weekend and what I've been up was three weeks ago, I need to make some time.

However, that time is not now :)

If college has taught me one thing, it's that not having it all together all the time is okay. I sometimes go to bed with my to-do list only halfway completed, and I'm learning to accept that.

So in the mean time......

..........................................................

I always think it's funny to hear about people's pet peeves, so today I'm sharing 10 of mine!

Not Turning Off Your Turn Signal
Turn signals in general drive me nuts. I hate it when people don't use them at all, and I hate it when people forget to turn them off. How difficult is it to properly use a turn signal?

Chewing Ice
I am NOT an ice chewer. I have just never liked chewing ice. What's worse than chewing ice though is the sound of someone else chewing ice very loudly. That always gets on my nerves!

Lack of Spell Check
I tried out a new restaurant a little while ago, and it drove me nuts to see that they had several typos on their menu. Spell check is great, and actually proofreading your writing is even better.....

Bad Grammar - Mostly "I Seen"
I'm not really a grammar police person. I don't always remember when I should use "I" instead of "me," but the thing that drives me bonkers is when people say "I seen." It is I HAVE SEEN or I SAW. End of story.

Slow Pedestrians in Crosswalk
If I am being nice and stopping my car to let you walk across the crosswalk, you better be walking faster than a snail. That's all I have to say about that :)

Too Much Makeup
You know me - I love makeup. But there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. I think that people who wear too much makeup look even worse than if they wore no makeup at all.

Cheap Chocolate
I admit, I'm a chocolate snob. Cheap chocolate is just a waste of money and calories to me.

Pushy Salespeople
I hate it when the salespeople in a store won't leave you alone. Once I was in White House Black Market, and when the saleswoman found out I was graduating (we ran into friends and were talking about it), she proceeded to pick out a dress for me (including a pair of shoes) and practically shove me in the fitting room to try it all on. Not surprising that I left the store empty handed, that kind of stuff really annoys me!

Vague Facebook Posts
I HATE it when people put up super vague Facebook posts, like "please pray," "I just had such a bad day," etc. Then when people ask what's wrong, they don't actually answer because it's "private." Fishing for Facebook comments or likes is so pathetic to me.

Poorly Groomed Feet
My feet aren't perfect. I only get a pedicure once a year, so I take care of them myself most of the time. It's really not that hard to keep them looking somewhat decent. But the thing that bothers me is unpainted toenails. I have to have my toes painted all year round, even when I'm wearing boots everyday in the winter. In the summer though, I hate seeing other people's toes if they're long, chipped (or completely unpainted), and the worst......if they're jagged. SO gross.

Is it bad that I could probably keep going with my pet peeves? Ha! I'll stop with 10 though :)

What are some of your pet peeves?

I'll Admit It.....

......I'm a little weird.

There are some things that I don't like or have never done that most people like or have done before. Alright, maybe it's a lot of things.

It doesn't bother me, but some people think it's weird! The kids I babysit used to make fun of me all the time for the things I didn't like or didn't know how to do. They thought it was so funny when I had no idea how to cut up a mango and had to watch a YouTube video on it - ha! Although, I thought that was pretty funny too :)

So here's just a few things that make me "unique".....

I admit that I don't like oranges. Or clementines. Or cuties. Or orange juice. Or orange sherbert. Basically, I don't like anything orange flavored. At all.

I admit that the smell of syrup makes me gag. I will eat syrup, but only a very small amount, and I HAVE to be able to brush my teeth directly afterwards because I hate the aftertaste too.

I admit that I have never seen the movies Mary Poppins, Aladdin, Sandlot, and a bunch more that I can't think of right now.

I admit that I haven't consistently watched a TV show in almost 2 years. In other words, the TV shows that air a new episode every week are the ones I never watch anymore. I used to have a list of TV shows - Amazing Race on Sunday, Grey's Anatomy on Thursday, etc. The last few years have been busy though, and I just haven't had the time to keep up with shows like that. I'm lucky if I can fit in a random TLC episode over the weekend. In fact, during the school year I very rarely watch TV shows during the week.

I admit that I have never seen an episode of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, nor do I know all of the words to the rap, although it seems like every other teenager I know does.

I admit that I have never tried, nor do I really have a desire to try, sushi.

I admit that I don't like pop because the carbon dioxide bubbles freak me out.

I admit that when I go to restaurants, I usually always get the same thing. I'm always afraid that if I try something new it might not be as good as my usual menu item, and then I'll just be disappointed that I didn't get my usual. I told you I was weird unique :)

I admit that I have never seen Pitch Perfect, which is another thing that I'm pretty sure every teenager has seen except for me.

I admit that I don't like bacon. SO gross.

I admit that the thought of living in a dorm has never crossed my mind and kind of weirds me out. I can't imagine voluntarily living with a stranger, paying mucho bucks for it, and being confined to such a small room. I'll take my free and spacious room to myself with home cooked meals any day, thankyouverymuch.

I admit that I don't like coconuts, onions, peppers, olives, pepperoni, pineapple, raspberries, blackberries, green grapes (I love purple ones though!), raisins (unless they're covered in chocolate), Doritos, Lay's potato chips, chips & salsa, pickles, any kind of nuts, popcorn (except for Garrett's Caramel Crunch), or Cheetos. And my list could go on and on - ha!

I admit that I only eat fried chicken with a knife and fork. I personally don't think it's weird, but my friends laugh at and make fun of me for it all the time. I just don't like my fingers to get all greasy!

I admit that I would rather go to bed early and get up early than go to bed late and get up late, which is pretty much the complete opposite of every other teenager on this planet.

I admit that I am not a procrastinator. I never wait till the last minute to do anything, especially school work. I'm pretty sure the majority of people I've gone to school with are procrastinators though, so I guess that sets me apart.

I admit that I don't understand the pop culture phenomenon that is the Kardashians. I'm still just trying to figure out why they are even "famous" in the first place? (And seriously - North West? Come on!)

I admit that I only like to use Facebook to connect with friends and family. I am happy with my only 256 friends, and I also admit that a lot of those friends are hidden from my News Feed. I've never added someone I haven't at least heard of, but I still have a lot of friends that are people I don't know that well, so I'll hide them so I can just see the posts from my friends and family that I really want to see.

I admit that I actually read every single book that was assigned during high school, even the bad and boring ones.

I admit that I cried throughout pretty much all of my high school graduation. I thought I wouldn't be the only one, but whenever I looked around, I totally was. Oh well!

Anyone else out there have some weird quirky characteristics that seem different from everyone else?

Dear 27 Year Old Allison

Dear 27 Year Old Allison,

As I write this blog post, I am 17 years old, and I can't even begin to imagine how much life has changed in 10 years. I can't even imagine myself being 27 years old, but then again I guess when I was 7 it was hard to imagine myself being 17. Time passes by so quickly, and I know that I will be 27 before I even know it.

As this point in your life, you've graduated college (hopefully - ha!). I hope and pray that you have a job that you love going to every day. And if you don't have a job you love, it's never too late to change that. Find something you like because life's too short not to enjoy yourself.

I hope you've done a lot of traveling, and I'm praying that you've been to Paris by now :) And if you have, say a prayer of thanksgiving, because right now, that's one of your biggest dreams!

I'm sure you still love to bake, and I hope you do it often - even if it's just for family and friends. I also hope you've come up with a lot of cute new cake pop designs over the years.....

I can't help but add that I'm crossing my fingers that you've visited some more Rita's! I know times change, but I don't see how my obsession with Rita's ever could :)

Of course, I can't help but wonder if you're married by now and maybe even have kids. It's weird to think that in 10 years, that's a definite possibility. I pray that even if you haven't met the "one" for you yet, you haven't given up hope that he's out there somewhere!

Another thing I'm praying hard for is that you've found a close group of friends. At 17, I feel as though I don't have a group of friends who do everything together, and I hope you've found that by now.

I hope that you're not afraid to live life despite the hardships. I can't even begin to imagine all the hard times you've faced in the last 10 years, but at the same time I can't take a wild guess at all the successes and fun times you've had too. Make sure you make the good times count for more than all of the bad times!

I hope that you've never stopped thanking God for all the blessings in your life. I know at 17 that's something I always try to do, but I'm counting on the face that you've gotten better at it!

I hope that you remember the past, but you don't live in the past. The only time you have is the present!

I hope that you're still blogging, and even if you're not, I hope you still look back at this blog every now and then to see how far you've come (and to read this letter!).

It makes me sad to think about the fact that there are people in my life right now who are probably not in your life anymore. But then again, you've probably met SO many more people to make up for it. I can't understand why God only brings certain people into our lives for a season, and I know you haven't figured that out either because I don't think that's something that can be understood. You just have to trust that everything works out for the best.

...............................................................................................

And just to remember what it was like to be 17, here's some current things......

I'm actually writing this letter on August 5, 2012 at 11:08 PM, although I'm not going to publish it for a little while. I'm writing it while laying on my bed with Coco curled up next to me. (Actually, she's laying here licking).

I start my Senior of year of high school in a few weeks (August 22).

I'm currently wearing a black maxi dress, and I can't help but wonder if those will be in style in another 10 years.

The current president is Barack Obama, although he's up for reelection in a few months.

Michael Phelps recently won his 22th Olympic medal, making him the most dressed Olympian of all time, in the 2012 London Olympics.

My favorite TV shows right now are What Not To Wear and Say Yes to the Dress.

I have an iPhone 4S right now. It's probably the best phone on the market right now, but I'm sure it will seem lame and outdated when you're 27.

I've had my license for over a year now, and so far the only thing I've hit is the garage door. I hope you haven't hit anything else or been hit, but I know that's probably unlikely - ha! I guess everyone makes mistakes.

I'm driving my green 2001 Chevy Prizm now. Although this car works fine for me now, I hope you have better and nicer one now! I'm sure you do since I don't think the Prizm will make it another 10 years :)

My favorite social media sites right now are Twitter and Pinterest. Again, I wonder if those sites are still big - probably not!

..............................................................................................

I wanted to write this post/letter to give you something to look back on. A piece of your teenage years to revisit in your twenties. I know you've experienced so many different life changes, but I know that you're a much stronger and better person than I am today. Everyday you get a little bit stronger.

Again, I can't even guess what you're life is like right now. Maybe you have a nice job and live by yourself. Or maybe you're married and have taken the opportunity to travel a lot. Maybe you're even a stay-at-home mom. I don't know if you drive a BMW or a mini van. I don't know if you have your own dog or not.

But despite all these uncertainties, I trust that God has some kind of plan behind it all, even if life doesn't turn out the way I imagine it in my head right now. Even though you're still 10 years away, I'm going to start praying for the 27 year old Allison. And just for the future in general.

So, remember me but don't dwell on me. But no matter what, always remember that:

"We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us."

Love,
17 Year Old Allison

Me, Myself, & I

Today's post is just going to be some random/quirky things about me! I love it when bloggers write a post so you can get to know them better, so that's what I'm doing today.

1. I like spending time alone. Not that I'm totally anti-social, but I'm not one of those people who feels like I always need to be doing something with someone else. In fact, I love just going to Target, Hobby Lobby, or some other store all by myself. I like being able to look at whatever I want and take my time :)

2. I used to be terrified of dogs. I absolutely hated them. My next door neighbor used to have a small poodle, and I can remember one day when he was out, and my friend and I ran and locked ourselves in my fenced in backyard so the dog wouldn't get us. And now I have a dog that I love so much!

3. I have always liked sweets, but lately my sweet tooth has gone off the charts. I seriously can't go an entire day without some kind of chocolate or sweet. Lately I've resorted to our stash of baking chocolate chips to satisfy the craving - ha!

4. I very rarely watch TV, especially shows during the week. If I have time on a weeknight, I'd much rather watch a movie than a TV show.

5. I don't like super greasy fast food. McDonald's grosses me out so much. I love Chick-fil-A and Subway, but that's about it. My family never just decides to go to Wendy's, Burger King, or McDonald's for dinner unless we have 5 minutes to eat and it's the only thing there!

6. I don't like to speed. I'm one of those people who almost always drives the speed limit. I'm just so nervous about being pulled over and ticketed, so I'd rather just not take the risk!

7. Going along with #6, I'm a rule follower. I don't like breaking rules or laws. I'm definitely not one to take crazy risks. I have that mindset that I don't want to do anything stupid that could jeopardize something in my future, so I'd much rather play it safe.

8. I am always extremely aware of my surroundings. I realize that's definitely a good thing, but I often freak myself out over nothing. For example, one day I was walking to pick up the kids I babysit from school. One of the streets I have to walk down is just a small street with some older homes on it. I don't see a lot of people out around there. Well, I was walking and I heard someone behind me. I glanced over my shoulder, and I noticed there was a man running towards me. I got so freaked out as a million different scenarios flashed through my mind, and my first though was that I had no way to defend myself if this guy came up to me. Well, it turns out that the guy just ran right past me, and as he did so he just turned and smiled at me. Not a creepy I'm-going-to-attack-you kind of smile, but just a nice hello kind of smile. Then I felt stupid since he was probably running late to pick his own kids up or something. But I seriously do things like that all the time.

9. I am not a procrastinator. At all. I have a big research paper due Tuesday that a lot of people haven't even started yet, but I have it all written. Sydney, the girl I babysit, never wants to do her homework right when she comes home from school, and I don't understand it. I will die if I have kids one day that are procrastinators. So. not. me.

10. I have a Type A personality, and at times I will admit I can be a bit of a perfectionist. Especially when it comes to cake pops. They always have to be perfect, or it bothers me. I try not to be so hardcore about my cake pops, but I just can't help it.

Have a great weekend! I'm looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow.

Senior Pictures

I finally got all of my Senior pictures! I'm SO happy with the way they turned out. I had them taken about a month ago when I was in Destin. I'm glad I got them done on the beach because it's just so much more unique than the traditional ones in a studio.

I got them done by a lady named Micha Everett. If you ever want to have professional pictures taken in Destin, I would definitely recommend her! She was so sweet, and she had an option where you could buy a disk with all of the pictures on it, and then you can print them yourself or do whatever with them. I think that's really neat!

So I feel kind of weird having a post of pictures that are all just me, but since they're my Senior pictures I thought I'd post them anyway. That way I can look back on them easily at least!

Not sure why they uploaded out of order either, but here they are...

This is one of my favorites!

And that's just a few of them! This was the first time I've had my pictures taken professionally and not in a studio. I thought it was so fun, and I love the way they turned out!

Story Time {Kings Island}

I thought I'd share with you today a few embarrassing stories :) Maybe you'll get a good laugh out of these!

So, we have an amusement park close to where I live called Kings Island.

It's always fun to go there, but it's also the sight of 2 of my most embarrassing stories! Although both of these things happened at the same place, thankfully they didn't happen on the same day! They actually took place a few years apart.

1. Trash Trauma
A few years ago they built this new ride called the Italian Job.

I was at Kings Island just after they had opened it with my parents and my friend Abby. We were walking by the ride, looking at it. I wasn't watching where I was going (never a good thing!).

Before I knew it, I had run into something. It was a garbage can! One of those pretty big ones too. It started to fall over, so before it fell and trash went everywhere, I reached out and caught it.

So, just imagine this: I'm standing there, leaning over, with my arms wrapped around this giant trash can that is tipped over on it's side. I had a little difficulty lifting it back up, but I finally did.

At that point, my parents, my friend, and random people walking by us were looking at me and laughing. I just about died, but I guess it's kind of funny thinking back on it now!

..........................................................

2. Double Trouble
Another time (a few years after the first incident), I was at Kings Island again, this time with a big group of my friends.

We were hungry for dinner, so we decided to go to a food court place called the Festhaus.

We split up, some of us going one way to get there, and some of us going another way. We wanted to see who could get there the fastest :)

I started running in my flip flops. And I tripped. Like, totally wiped out on the concrete sidewalk. My knees were all scraped and bloody.

Now, when I get hurt, I get really mad. I don't know why, I just always get so frustrated about it. Well, one of my friends came up to me to try and help me up, and I kind of snapped at her (I still feel bad about that - don't know why I did it!).

At that point, I just really wanted to get to the Festhaus to clean up my knees and get something to eat (I'll blame my grouchy behavior on hunger....ha!). But anyway, I power walked it the rest of the way to the Festhaus. I'm pretty sure my friends were walking behind me cracking up at this point, and I honestly don't blame them!

I finally got into the Festhaus, and I made a bee-line for the bathroom. At this point my knees were really hurting, and I needed to clean them off. I was SO focused on getting to the bathroom that I didn't notice a certain sign on the floor.....

Yeah, the floor was wet, and as I was doing my power walk to the bathroom, I completely slipped and wiped out. Again.

I was SO mad at this point, and I'm pretty sure I laid there on the floor for a little bit because I was just so surprised and angry about the whole thing. Ha!

I did finally get to the bathroom and get cleaned up. I later heard from some of my friends that when they came in and saw my on the floor in the Festhaus they had a hard time controlling their laughter. :)

For a few years, I had a scar on my knee from falling, but I think it's finally gone now. My friends and I still joke and laugh about the whole incident. It's really funny thinking about it now, but it sure wasn't funny to me when it happened!

...........................................................

I haven't been to Kings Island in a long time, and just the other day I was thinking about how I need to go again. After thinking back on these 2 stories, maybe that isn't such a great idea. :)

I prefer chocolate over vanilla.

I prefer Twitter over Facebook.

I prefer cupcakes over cookies.

I prefer the beach over the mountains.

I prefer Google over Yahoo.

I prefer movies over TV shows.

I prefer flying over driving.

I prefer water over pop.

I prefer Pinterest over Tumblr.

I prefer summer over winter.

I prefer Yagoot over Orange Leaf.

I prefer Macy's over Dillards.....duh!

I prefer pink over any other color.

A Day in the Life

I've seen a bunch of people blog about their "average day", so I thought I would do the same. I think it would be interesting to look back on this years later and see how my "average day" has changed!

So here's a glimpse into a day in the life of me......

6:00 - I wake up every day around 6 to get ready for school, eat breakfast, catch up on blogs, etc.

7:00 - leave for school

7:25 - I get to school early pretty much every day so I can do some last minute studying for the day :)

7:45-2:34 - I'm at school during this whole time. Right now, my classes include: Art, AP AB Calculus, Social Justice, Spanish 4, AP Chemistry, AP American History, and AP English. I've got a busy and rough day! And yes, I do actually get dismissed at 2:34 - I'm not sure why we dismiss at such a random time!
via

2:40-2:50 - drive to babysitting

2:50-5/5:30 - I babysit everyday after school until around 5 or 5:30, it just depends on when the parents get home! I was nervous about how this would work out with my difficult classes, but it has been great! Normally the kids like to watch TV or play downstairs/upstairs, so I can always get some of my homework done!

5:30 - dinnertime - my favorite time of the day :)

6:00-10:00 - This is the time of day where I pretty much finish up anything I need to get done. Most days I'll finish homework, and take a shower. On Mondays I have piano practice, and on Thursdays I usually go to my grandpa's house. If I'm lucky, I might have some time to relax, watch TV, or watch a movie. Having a lot of free time is rare during the week though, so usually I do most of my relaxing on the weekends!

I'm one of those people who needs tons of sleep, so I usually try to get in bed by 10. I could never be like most of my friends who are up until 1am. 10:30 is usually my limit - ha!

This probably wasn't the most interesting post to read, but like I said, I think it would be interesting to look back on this post in future years.

I hope you have a great weekend. I've got a busy weekend planned that I'm so excited for :)

Maybe You Never Knew...

I don't about you, but I love it when bloggers write random "confessions" about themselves. In other words, I like reading or hearing something about someone that I never knew before. Therefore, I thought it would be fun to write up a list of some things you maybe never knew about me before....

1. I used to be a really picky eater (And in some ways I still kind of am...). As a little kid, I didn't like pizza. I'm so glad I've grown out of this one because for pretty much every birthday party, school party, Superbowl party....you name it party there's pizza. I always hated being the kid who had to pack a sandwich on pizza party days at school....

2. I hate the smell of syrup. Absolutely 100% hate it. I can tolerate it if I'm eating pancakes/waffles, but if I smell it anywhere else I can't stand it. It seriously makes me want to gag.

3. I've held a human brain before. Super random I know, but I got to do it in 7th grade as a part of an enrichment program. I don't think too many people have done that before!

4. Aside from an occasional cold, I have been literally sick with the flu or stomach bug in 5 years. Alleluia! Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself....

5. I was valedictorian of my 8th grade class. That's super random, but I'm still proud about it :)

6. I like "dressing up." People ask me all the time why I look so nice, but I honestly prefer a dress or a nice pair of jeans and a cute top to sweatpants and a t-shirt. My school has spirit wear Fridays, which I like, but I would prefer to dress up on Fridays than wear casual clothes - ha!

7. I have no idea what I want to do with the rest of my life after high school, but I've kind of considered opening my own bakery. I guess we'll have to see what happens!

8. I hate all kinds of pop/soda. I hate the carbon dioxide that makes it all bubbly. I hate that! I'm not even sure if I've actually tried Coke...

9. I like thinking about the fact that my future husband is out there in the world right now, even though I don't know him yet. I like wondering what he's doing right now...

10. I've known one of my current best friends since we were 3. It's been a long time!

Well, did you learn anything new about me? Ha!
Is anyone else as excited about Christmas coming up as I am?!?!

Day 19: Share Your Nicknames

Today's topic is all about our nicknames. Most people call me Allison, but there are a few people who call me other things......

1. Pippi
My cousin started calling me Pippi a long time ago after Pippi Longstocking. She fixed my hair one night when we were in Florida, and she said I looked just like Pippi Longstocking, and it just kind of stuck.

2. Alice
My little cousins call me Alice because they couldn't say Allison. I think they could say it now, but they still just like to call me Alice :)

3. Son
A few of my friends, especially my friend Melanie, call me Son (like Allison). That's just kind of stuck too. I don't think Melanie has called me Allison in almost a year.

Day 1: Introduce Yourself

Today I'm participating in the 30 Day Challenge! The first topic is to Introduce Yourself.

My name is Allison!

I am an only child, but I do have a shih-tzu named Coco.

Some of my favorite things are eating chocolate, wearing scarves, shopping, and going to concerts. I am totally obsessed with Twitter and Pinterest. I love listening to music, reading new books, and watching movies.

I know this isn't a whole lot about me, but I'm going to be posting on a lot of the Challenge topics, and I don't want to write about everything now!

I hope you all have a fantastic Thursday!
